Summer Session

A Meadow Collection

creating a naturalistic tabletop design

Our Summer Session is A Meadow Collection. In this class we'll be creating a cohesive tabletop collection using three vessels, one handmade ceramic vase by local artist Cup Half Full Ceramics, and two terra cotta flower frog vases.

We will be building off of our Ikebana class with the flower frogs, with the addition of a lush western style arrangement. It is not necessary to have attended our spring session. These sessions are meant to honor the season so we will be working within the parameters of what summer has to offer. Where spring gives us lots of pastels and rich hues, summer brings warm tones and interesting textures like grasses. With this in mind, we will be using the three vessels to create a scene that mimics a meadow. We will talk color theory, discuss how to incorporate texture in a design to achieve a naturalistic feel, and we will spend time learning how to use multiple vessels to build a single, original design.

The class will take place on Sunday morning, August 1st, from 11am-1pm. We are so excited to be able to host this session at 216 N. Front st. in what is currently the exhibition space for “Continuum of Change”. This show is part of Initiative1897 which you can read more about here. We are donating $10 of each ticket sale to DREAMS of Wilmington

We will provide everything you need and you will, of course, be able to take home your creations. We will serve mimosas and small breakfast bites. We look forward to spending some creative time with you!
